Growing Up with Her Siblings

During her childhood years, her father played an important role in her upbringing. He cared for her with patience and tenderness, often bringing her small gifts such as toffee or biscuits to comfort her. Through him, she learned responsibility, compassion, and the importance of being present for loved ones.

She grew up alongside her siblings, Obaapanyin Kweiba, Opanyin Akyen, and her younger sister, Auntie Naana, all of blessed memory. As she grew into womanhood, she became known for her natural beauty, gentle character, humility, and quiet dignity.

Marriage and Family Life

Around the age of nineteen, she went to stay with her beloved uncle, Nana Kwesi Ata of blessed memory, at Gomoa Gyaman. She stayed there for about four years. This period became an important turning point in her life.

During her time at Gomoa Gyaman, she met the man who later became her husband. He was a respected and influential person within the community and beyond. Their relationship grew steadily in mutual understanding and respect.

In accordance with tradition, he formally sought her hand in marriage, and the union was joyfully approved by both families. Their marriage was built on peace, cooperation, and shared purpose. Together, they created a home filled with discipline, order, and affection.

The Loss of Her Husband

In 1991, life took a painful turn when her husband passed away. The responsibility of raising the children suddenly rested fully on her shoulders. This difficult period revealed her courage, strength, and resilience.

After her husband’s passing, she refused to give in to despair or self-pity. Instead, she rose with quiet determination and became both mother and father, provider and protector. Through petty trading and farming, she worked tirelessly to care for her children.

A Life of Sacrifice and Prayer

Her days often began before dawn and ended late at night. Many mornings, her children found her already on her knees in prayer. She prayed for provision, protection and a meaningful future for each child. She carried her struggles privately so that her children could grow in hope rather than fear.

Her love was often expressed through small but meaningful gestures. Whenever she had even a little money, she bought treats such as coconut toffee and biscuits for her children. During harvest seasons, she encouraged them to bring their friends home so they could all return to school with food.

She uprooted cassava, cut plantain, harvested fresh corn and kontomire, and packed them generously. She believed her children should never feel inferior because their mother was struggling. She encouraged them with words of faith and strength, reminding them that God sees every effort.

Faith and Spiritual Guidance

Faith was central to her life. She was a devoted member of the African Faith Tabernacle Church, yet she deeply respected her late husband’s Catholic faith. She ensured that every child received baptism at St Lawrence Catholic Church in Gomoa Gyaman and allowed them to grow spiritually without compulsion.

She lived a life marked by peace and humility. She was not known for quarrels or prolonged disputes. She practiced hospitality as a personal principle and often shared what she had, even when it meant she would go without.

Final Years and Legacy

She was a farmer, trader, mother, counsellor, and prayerful guide to many. Her kindness was consistent, her laughter gentle, and her dignity clear even in hardship. She taught by example that character is greater than possession.

On 27th November 2025, she peacefully departed this world. She leaves behind children, grandchildren, relatives, and a community shaped by her sacrifices.

Her legacy does not lie in material wealth, but in faith, perseverance, compassion, and the enduring love she sowed into generations.
