Biography of Deaconess Vida Collins

Deaconess Vida Collins was born on January 7, 1952, in the town of Akyem Osenase, located in the Eastern Region of Ghana. She was the third child in a family of eight siblings, born to Opanyin James Kwaku Frimpong and Obaapanyin Sarah Afia Krah, both of blessed memory. Growing up in a close-knit family, Vida was nurtured with strong values of faith, hard work, and education.
From an early age, Vida showed a natural curiosity and a deep love for learning. Recognising her eagerness to acquire knowledge, her parents enrolled her at Osenase Presbyterian Primary School in 1956. She excelled in her studies and was known for her discipline and determination.
After completing primary school, she continued her education at Adu Parko Middle School in Osenase, where she completed her middle school education in 1965.
Upon finishing middle school, Vida moved to Accra to live with her father at ElWak. This move marked a new chapter in her life as she adapted to city life and took on new responsibilities.
Vida worked as a trader and businesswoman, engaging in various small-scale trading activities. Her business acumen and hardworking nature earned her respect in her community. It was during this period, in the mid-1960s, that she met her future husband, WOII Collins Dzam, who has since passed on. Their marriage was built on mutual respect, love, and shared faith.
Her involvement in the church began early and deepened over time. She was an active member of the Apostolic Church, participating in various church activities and ministries. She was particularly passionate about serving others and was known for her willingness to help those in need.
Vida took on roles such as organising women’s fellowship meetings and supporting church outreach programs.
Her commitment and dedication to the Apostolic Church did not go unnoticed. Over the years, she steadily rose through the ranks, earning the trust and admiration of church leaders and members alike.
Through her consistent service, humility, and leadership qualities, she was ordained as a deaconess. This role allowed her to take on greater responsibilities within the church, including providing spiritual support to members, assisting in church administration, and leading various church initiatives.
As a deaconess, she became a source of encouragement and guidance to many, embodying the values of compassion and faithfulness.
In her later years, Deaconess Vida Collins faced health challenges that tested her strength and spirit. Despite battling illness, she remained steadfast in her faith and continued to inspire those around her with her positive attitude and unwavering trust in God. She received comfort and support from family, friends, and her church community during this difficult time.
Deaconess Vida Collins passed away peacefully on March 28, surrounded by loved ones who cherished her deeply. Her passing marked the end of a life well-lived, one filled with love, service, and devotion.
She will be remembered fondly for her kindness, her dedication to family and church, and the quiet strength she showed throughout her life. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
